Ah, America…land of the free, home of the indebted. According to CNNMoney.com, the average American household has almost $9,200 in debt. That’s the average. Some have much, much more. Interest rates generally run in the mid to high teens, so counting interest and payments on other debt, such as mortgages, the average American is dealing with a heavy debt load.

So what can you, Mr. or Ms. Average American, do to get yourself out of this nasty situation? The first step, which may be the most uncomfortable, is the most critical: get your life under control!

And that means preparing a household budget.

A successful business prepares a budget. It attempts to anticipate funding needs going forward, and then does its best to stay within the budgeted amount for its expenditures. You probably have an advantage over most businesses in that you have great foresight in anticipating your financial needs. You know what you typically spend in a given month on various things such as food, clothing, utilities, and rent or mortgage. If you don’t have an idea of what you spend on these things, take a look at your checking account registry, or your online checking account information. Your past financial dealings are right there for you to see.

It may also be helpful to use a financial tracking application such as Microsoft Money. You can find out more about Money at http://www.microsoft.com/money/. These types of applications are excellent for becoming more aware of where your money goes. A free online application that is designed specifically for improving your awareness of your spending patterns is http://mint.com. The application automatically labels many of your expenses and lets you classify expenses any way you want. One unique feature of the site is that it lets you compare your spending to the spending habits of people in any city, state, or nationwide.

Just becoming aware of how you spend your money will greatly increase your power. You will likely find yourself becoming less prone to wasting money once you develop this awareness. Once you have a handle on where you money goes, the next step is controlling where it goes. And for that, you need a budget.

The first items in your budget should be the necessities – expenses that are not optional. These would include things like your house payment or rent, electricity, water, car payments, gas so you can get to work, and food. Many financial experts recommend that you pay yourself before paying anyone else, and by that they mean you should take 10% (or however much you can afford) and put it in savings or an investment account. However, if you don’t have a roof over your head or food in your stomach, then saving is a moot point. So for purposes of creating your first realistic budget, I recommend that first you take out the necessities. Necessities, of course, vary greatly from the mind of one person to the next, but think of it in terms of BARE necessities – things you absolutely have to have to survive.

If you’re really, really serious about getting out of debt, you might want to take a hard look at those car payments. If you could get by with something less, and you’re not “upside down” (meaning you owe more than the car is worth), it probably makes a lot of sense to sell and downgrade. It will likely save you some money on a monthly basis, and may even put some immediate cash in your pocket.

Next, take out 10% for your savings. If you can’t afford 10%, allocate SOMETHING. But strive for the magic 10%. It is also recommended that you allocate another 10% for charity. This may be an item you leave off until last, but many good things happen to those who are willing to give away some part of their income with nothing expected in return.

After savings and possibly funds for tithing, factor in your debt payments. Yeah, this is when you start to feel the pain. There are steps you can take to help ease the situation, such as debt consolidation. Another strategy is to pay off your debts in ascending order of size; i.e., pay off your smallest debts first, as fast as you can. As debts are paid off, add the amounts you were spending on those debts to what you pay to service larger debts. It’s a snowball effect, whereby over time you end up paying larger and larger amounts on your biggest debts in order to get them paid off faster.

Next, factor in your non-necessities. This is where you really have to take a hard look at your life. Are you spending too much money on entertainment? Alcohol? Clothes? Fancy cars (as discussed above)? If you are serious about getting out of debt, then you’ve got to scale down these types of expenses. Just becoming aware of how much you spend on non-necessities may shock you into action. You should budget for these types of expenses, but cut them back, and allocate the remainder for debt repayment.

The final step in preparing your budget is to write down your income, and make sure everything balances out. You can’t spend more than you make (that’s probably how you ran up all that credit card debt to start with). If your expenses are too high, start cutting back on the non-necessities. In the end, you’ll have a nice, balanced budget.

Once your budget is in place, you’ve got to find a way to stick to it. One recommended strategy is to use a cash system. The problem with the way money is handled today is that it’s just too easy to spend it. Just whip out your debit card. No cash required. No check book and no ledger entry required. But you quickly lose track of how much you’re spending. The solution is to allocate your budget requirements into cash categories. Literally put cash into envelopes every month for various categories of expenses. You will be less likely to spend money needlessly if you literally see your pile of cash getting smaller. And you will have much more clarity about your financial situation.

If you follow these steps, it can have a profound impact on your life. You can get out of debt quicker, take control of your finances, and feel much better about yourself. It’s all up to you. And it all starts with a budget.

Usually no one wants to talk about budgets, no one wants to think about budgets, and no one wants to follow a budget. However, when looked at with open eyes a budget is actually a fantastic thing. Here are three reasons why budget may become your favorite word:

Sit amongst a group of friends and associates and mention the word budget, and suddenly everyone has somewhere else they need to be. Usually no one wants to talk about budgets, no one wants to think about budgets, and no one wants to follow a budget. However, when looked at with open eyes a budget is actually a fantastic thing. Here are three reasons why budget may become your favorite word:

Reason #1: A budget puts you in control of your money instead of your money controlling you. What did you spend your last $100 on? You may not remember. Maybe it was a pizza, or stickers for your children, maybe it went to piano lessons or a new pair of boots. The point is, many people have no idea where their money goes. When you set, and follow, a realistic budget your cash is freed up so you can spend your money on things that are important to you and your family rather than spending it on purchases you won’t remember buying ten minutes later.

Reason #2: A budget can improve your relationships. There’s little worse than the stress money can cause. Debt causes tremendous stress and so does the fear that you won’t be able to pay your bills. It can ruin your health and it can destroy relationships. When you form a financial plan with your family you work together as a team to reach your goals. The lines of communication are opened and the stress is eliminated because you have a plan and a team of support. Additionally, when you’re all on the same page financially there are no arguments about money, which makes better relationships with your spouse and your children.

Reason #3: Most people would agree that it is better to live within your means than to get into debt. However, some people don’t realize they’re living beyond their means until it is too late and the debt has become overwhelming and stressful. A sound budget keeps you living within your means and prevents or eliminates debt. A structured and realistic budget prevents the ‘Oops I spent too much on my credit card this month’ mistake that we often make month after month until we’re paying more on our minimum balance than on our mortgage. If this applies to you, don’t let it get to this point. Take advantage of the power of a budget and gain control over your financial life.

There is absolutely no downside to forming a budget and we’ve only scratched the surface of the benefits they provide. Take a few minutes to realistically analyze your spending habits, your income, and your financial goals. I promise you’ll be glad you did.

Historians of the English constitution said “London acted constantly as the purse and sometimes as the brain of England”. Time-by-time, its evidence can be seen thru various incidents. In 1665 it overpowered the great plague bravely and in the following year again its supremacy was proved by recovering itself from the great disaster of fire which destroyed more than 13,000 houses, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal Exchange, 86 churches and most of the guild halls.

Nowadays, London is known as the most expensive city in the world but still concept of budget hotels exist here. Bayswater and Victoria are the places in London where one can get budget hotels of own choices. One must remember that budget hotels London may misinform you. Hence, visitors must be conscious while choosing accommodation in budget hotels. London is identified as financial as well as educational hub in the world. But perhaps, the tag of expensive is depleting its reputation and British government is perfectly aware with this fact. Hence, the cultural department along with media and sport department have prepared multi agency strategy entitled: “Winning – A Tourism Strategy for 2012 and Beyond”. Under this strategy, government has decided to promote budget hotels London to attract all income groups to visit London with friends and family.

Suitability of hotels in London mainly depends upon one’s planned activities, interests and budget. It is quite possible that one can get a hotel in London which will match entire required needs. For instances, if someone likes theatre than definitely West End should be the choice. West End is very famous for sound of music and dirty dancing. Some fashion conscious persons also may visit London and in that case Knightsbridge district will be the optimum location. It is famous for fashion boutiques and top department stores like Harrods and Harvey Nichols. If person has visited London due to its beautiful sights than Dockland may be the perfect location due to the proximity of world famous landmarks like St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

Wherever, you are staying in London but if you are looking for budget hotels then don’t forget to check travel certificate before selecting the accommodation. Beside this one must check linens and carpet on the floor which represent the cleanliness of hotel. Budget hotels are self rated hotels so don’t fix with the tag of three or four stars. Visitors should not depend upon the food service of the budget hotels as there may not be specified criteria about quantity and quality of food items. Hence budget hotel must be close to a good restaurant which could serve delicious and nutritious food. Security issue also may be main area of concern while choosing the budget hotel.

Thus, budget hotels are all about the wise decision of visitors. If, they have wisely checked each and every measures than undoubtedly it may be the amusing deal. On the contrary few stupid acts may ruin you.

Developing a realistic budget is the first step to financial freedom. Notice I said realistic, I am not talking about a standard itemized budget here where you say I pay this much on the house and this much on the electric and so on. A budget that only includes your standard monthly expenses just is not realistic. Why not? Because you spend a lot more money than you think on things that you do not even consider in your budget.

When was the last time you sat down and worked out your budget? Did it look good on paper? Was it hard for you to figure out why you were broke when you should have $1,000 or more in expendable income each month? What is happening to that income? You are spending it without even realizing it.

In order to develop a realistic budget, I want you to do a couple of things. Take out a sheet of paper or open a spreadsheet. Enter your standard monthly expenses such as your house payment, car payment, utility bills, insurance bills, credit card payments, etc. Do not forget extras such as groceries and gasoline. While you are at it, take a stab at how much you are spending in entertainment and impulse purchases. Now put everything away and do not look at it for a month.

What you are going to look at for a month is a spending journal. Go purchase an inexpensive notebook. Each time you make a purchase, no matter how small, record it in the notebook. I am talking about everything here: coffee, lunches, dinners out, money that you hand over to the kids, etc. Write down the date you spent the money, how much you spent and describe what you bought.

At the end of the month, bring out your standard budget and your journal and compare them. I bet you spent a lot more money than you had budgeted for, did you? It is amazing how things that you do not even consider add up. Just think: If you buy a $2 coffee every morning on your way to work, you would spend $40 a month on coffee. And that is not including the occasional donut that you sneak here and there.

Now it is time to get realistic. The key to formulating an accurate budget is to merge these two budgets. Take a look at what you really spend and figure out where you can cut costs. Maybe you could purchase a self-timed coffee pot and grab a cup before you leave the house. Maybe you could let the kids rent movies and have their friends over rather than go out to the theater. Do not be afraid to get creative.

Keep in mind that you can only budget and save where it is reasonable. Do not try to do away with items that you do not want to live without. Instead, shave away expenses. Instead of eating out twice a week, why not try twice a month? Instead of doing away with cable completely, why not scale back on subscription channels? You get the idea.

The key to developing a realistic budget is to be honest and reasonable. Be sure to include all of your expenses, even the ones that are easy to forget about.

Starting a family on a budget is a challenge for many people. It’s easy to get caught up in spending money you don’t have when you start having kids. It’s important to have a budget in place when you’re starting a family so that you can be prepared for the expenses involved with having children. Tips for managing family finances include identifying goals, creating family savings accounts to stay on budget and reducing or eliminating high interest debt.

Starting A Family: Identifying Savings Goals

When you’re starting a family it’s important to identify your savings goals. Goals for your family might include saving money for college, buying a new home or buying a larger home. Once you’ve identifying your savings goals, you can create a family budget to help you stay on track. Starting a family is costly, but before you get too overwhelmed, remember that people do it every day, without any kind of plan at all. Identifying the need for family budgeting and managing your family’s finances puts you ahead of the pack and helps prepare you for the changes in your family’s future.

Managing Family Finances And The Family Budget

Manage family finances by utilizing your savings goals to set the pace for your family budget. Instead of just opening a savings account and a checking account, create savings accounts for each of your major savings goals. Accounts named “baby,” “John’s college fund” or “new house” can make sticking to a family budget and managing family finances easier.

Family Budgeting Takes Time

It takes time to get used to family budgeting systems and to start seeing gains in your savings accounts. You can also help manage family finances by reducing your credit card and loan debts. Transfer high interest debt to a balance transfer card or a low interest credit card and start saving money for your family goals today. Understand that you’ll make some budgeting mistakes along the way. When that happens, start fresh and move forward without judgment, to ensure that your family’s budget is a success.

Look at how much you earn. What can you put aside for a trip? What are you prepared to sacrifice to make your trip a reality? Maybe you’ve been saving for a while and have a few thousand dollars in the bank. You do? Great. Well that’s your realistic budget. If you want to fly to Europe tomorrow and you only have ten dollars in the bank then you are not being realistic. But it might be enough to get you in to the local museum for a few hours escape.

When you are setting your budget, be practical. Everyone has different needs for their travel experience and if your travel plans include overseas flights, you will need to budget accordingly. Sure you can find great deals and get there cheaper than you might have expected, but make sure you have enough money in your budget to not only get you there but to travel around, find a place to sleep, oh and have enough money to be able to eat!

So how do you go about setting a budget? Following these steps might help:

1. Draw up a table with two columns.

2. Column A is for Expense Items. Column B is for Approximate Costs.

3. In column A write down all the things you can think of that will cost you money while traveling. These might include: air flights, car hire/fuel allowance, travel passes, sight-seeing tours, accommodation, food, insurance, immunizations, and souvenirs.

4. In column B write an estimate of how much you think these things will cost while on your trip. You can research your travel costs quite easily on the Internet. Food allowance might be a bit more difficult. If you are traveling alone, as a couple or in a family you will need to budget food costs accordingly.

5. Now add up the costs. This will give you an estimate of how much your trip will cost. Can you afford it? Yes – then this is a realistic budget for you. If not, then you may have to rethink your destination and the type of travel experience you want.

Remember that this table will only be an estimate of your travel costs. You must also budget for incidentals and prepare yourself for things to not go to plan. For example, have you got enough money in your budget to buy new clothes if your luggage goes missing? A realistic travel budget will have extra built in to it to cover emergencies. Setting yourself a budget of about sixty-five dollars a day, if traveling alone, is a reasonable amount. If you are traveling as a family or in a group, this number will be vastly different.

Also consider if you will be traveling and working. If this is the case, then you may not need as much to start with, just enough money to get you to your destination and a place to live while you look for work. (And enough money to buy you food until you begin earning a wage.)

Start making your travel plans with your budget in mind. Don’t exceed your budget, always keep a little in reserve so you can buy that fantastic Italian leather handbag or go jet-skiing in Hawaii if the desire takes you!

To get out of debt you need a budget. Many people think that budgeting is just a waste of time. But without a budget you have no idea where your money is going. A budget will help you stretch your money and track all your spending. Budgeting is a useful tool that should be used in your household every month. You will be surprised how much you spend on things you really don’t need and even more surprised how much you can save if you set up a budget you can live with.

Make a list of all your expenses and don’t leave anything out include everything. List expenses like rent or mortgage payment, utility bills, car payments, insurance payments, entertainment, car repairs, credit cards and everything else you can think of. Decide how much money you are left with at the end of each month to pay towards your debt. Are you charging your purchases instead of paying in cash or debit card? How often do you use your credit card on those insignificant purchases when you could have just as easily used cash or even your debit card? This raises your balances and costs you more money in interest. Use cash, check, or a debit card and save yourself some money. To get out of debt you need a budget you can live with.

Unsecured debt like credit cards with high interest rates are the first things you need to concentrate on and pay off. The ones with the smallest balance are the ones you want to work on first. The reason you want start with the small ones first is because cards with small balances are the easiest to pay off and it gives you a sense of accomplishment. When you start to see the balances go to zero it helps you stick to the budget. Once the small ones are done then you work on the big ones. To get out of debt you need a budget that you can save a little money for unforeseen expenses that happen from time to time.

The best budget in the world won’t work if you can’t stay on it because it is too Restrictive. To get out of debt you need a budget that will be easy to follow. Live on less money than you make, control your wants and make a budget you can live with. It all can be accomplished with a little discipline and the desire that you can get rid of debt in less time than you think. It’s a great feeling when you can live free of debt. You can do it, you just need to get started and the rest will be easy.

Much of the time it is up to the Woman of a household to take care of the budget and finances. Mothers have the task of determining the budget, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the budget. In other instance a mother has to take care of these duties while also working part of full time. Nonetheless the time that a mother has is very limited in which doing everyday things in the most efficient manner is absolutely necessary. It is absolutely necessary for a mother to set a budget for the household so that everything can run smoothly and effectively. For a household that is not properly planned can cause for much chaos. When kids are involved in the mix the need for a budget is much more greater for resources tend to become depleted quite easily. By setting easy and comfortable budgets for your family can save you both time and money allowing for you family to run easier and smoother. When a mom is taking care of the budget while also working, planning ahead of time is essential. For example grocery shopping in bulk will not only save you time and money, but it will also save you in terms of preparation. You will be able to make meals in large batches then freeze them for whenever you need a quick meal. This allows you a piece of mind that you can always have something ready for last minute occasions.

Another large impact of a family’s budget is the entertainment expense. When you have kids they have a need to be stimulated all the time. Instead of spending money on going to the movies, buying them unnecessary toys, and expensive fun parks, enroll them in sports teams or some type of lesson that they are interested in. Yes, this will cost some money but in the long run it is much less than the other types of entertainment. Your kids will learn a new skill that will enable them to keep preoccupied & content even they are not at their actual lesson or team practice. They will be able to practice on their own and get better at something not involving a video game or TV.

Setting a budget for your family needs to be customized to the amount of money that is going in and out of your household every month. If you are trying to save up for something then something else must be given up. This really allows you to weigh what is important to you, short-term satisfaction or long-term goals. If the woman of the house knows some of these tips, she will be able to set up a household to be the most efficient as possible. When a household is efficient, it opens up the much-needed time for family and friends to enjoy each other’s company. Setting the proper budget can allow your family to become closer knit because they will value the time they can spend with each other

In times like these it is almost necessary to live on a budget. Living on a budget should not be viewed as a bad thing for it gives you realistic expectations on how much you can and cannot spend. In order to manage your money effectively and responsibly, it is imperative to set up a budget for both your family and your business. In determining how to set up your budget you must determine how much money is going in and out during a month. In doing this you are being exposed to the realities of the inflows and out flows of your money so that you can put things into perspective. Your income is obviously going to be the main contributor to inflows, and expenses include rent or a mortgage payment, credit card bills, utility bills, loan payments, food, gas, clothing, and entertainment. Now, maybe that brand new expensive car does not look as appealing. Having the reality of actually seeing how much money you make, and how much goes to the necessities of living, many other material things to not seem important. This is a very important in the budgeting process, which must be done before anything else.

Now that you see how much goes in and out, you need to determine how much is allocating to different variable sources. These variable sources include entertainment, clothing, and other miscellaneous expenses, which can vary because they are not necessities. For example in the summer months you may spend more on entertainment such as a vacation instead of clothing. You must make sure that if you increase one part of your Budget you must decrease another. In doing this you are making sure that you are not going over you allotted spending. Another important thing to remember is to set up your budget so that you are not constantly starving yourself in a sense. If you spend no money on yourself and chalk it up to savings, you will probably have moments of weakness and spend more than you ever intended too. Going overboard with saving depletes the quality of your daily life making you a much unhappier person. Spending enough to ensure that you are taken care of while saving is the optimal situation. In order to ensure this to happen, the right amount of resources must be allocating to your different sectors of spending. If you do this step correctly will are setting yourself up to succeed.

Overall setting up a budget is imperative for anyone who wants to ensure that they are on track with their money. In determining how much you take in and put out you must ensure that your calculations are correct so that you know exactly what you are dealing with. In determining how to split up your resources, necessities come first. There are all sorts of ways to save that involves the use of online tools that manage your accounts and spending. Budgets are important factors to use when trying to manage your money efficiently.
